FISME conducts Design Orientation Programme


As part of the promotional campaign under the Design Clinic Scheme, FISME in association with the National Institute of Design organised a Design Orientation Programme for MSMEs on October 13, 2011, in Hyderabad.  The objective of the programme was to sensitize the relevant stakeholders of Andhra Pradesh about the design clinic scheme and to bring about design interventions among MSMEs.

The programme also showcased various design projects initiated under this project. The half-day programme held on October 13, 2011 in Hyderabad was inaugurated by Dr. P. Shanker Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Small Scale Industries, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.  In the opening remarks, while welcoming the participants, Joint Secretary V.N. Sastry as the FISME representative, explained the shared commitment of FISME in implementing the scheme at the national level and requested the relevant stakeholders to derive benefits from the scheme which can improve their competitiveness.

While briefly touching upon the role being played by FISME at the national level, he further elaborated the focus areas of its functions. While delivering the key note address, the chief guest of the function, Dr. P., Shanker Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Small Scale Industries, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said that his government would provide all possible cooperation for leveraging these kinds of initiatives. He further informed that he would be convening a meeting with representatives of industry to address the problems being faced by MSMEs.  

The other dignitaries present on the dais were Dr. V. Hanumantha Rao, President, FAPSIA, Prof. Shashank Mehta, Project Head, Design Clinic Scheme, NID, Ahmedabad, Dr. Goshal, NID, Ahmedabad, Shri. D. Chandra Sekhar, Director, MSME-Development Institute, Hyderabad.     

Detailed presentations were made by officials from NID and DI-MSME about various schemes being offered by the Ministry of MSME.  Officials from NID interacted with a group of machine tools cluster members and finalised around eight design projects during the course of the programme.  Soon after the presentations, the session opened for Q&A followed by lunch.

The programme was attended by around 100 participants from MSMEs, MSME associations, Government officials, MSME institutions, cluster stakeholders and consultants.
