FISME to organise Indo-Pak SME delegation exchange in Oct 13

The Federation of Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (FISME) will organize the first exchange programme for the small and medium enterprises of India and Pakistan in October this year.

“I am happy to announce that FISME would organize first SME exchange programme in the decade between India and Pakistan. We shall mount to and receive a delegation from Pakistan,” said the President of FISME Mr D Gandhikumar during KNN launch in New Delhi on July 25, 2013.

Following peaceful transition of power, Nawaz Sharif government took over the charge in Pakistan earlier this year. He has expressed keen desire to focus on deepening of political and trade relations with India.

While two-way trade between India and Pakistan stands UDS 2.4 billion (March 2013), trade experts opine a potential of over USD 15-20 billion.

India had accorded Most Preferred Nation (MFN) status to Pakistan long ago, freeing trade from Pakistan to India, but Pakistan still regulates Indian trade with a negative list, which was pruned recently.

The FISME chief said, SME Summit would also be organized towards the end of the year where chambers of all South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries will participate.

The initiatives are being supported by SAARC Trade Promotion Network based in Nepal and other international agencies.

“We are also pushing for greater market access for Indian MSMEs in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) especially Myanmar and are planning a range of new initiatives in this regard,” he said.
