  The FISME Factor

President's Message
Dr. Sangam Kurade, President, FISME " Efforts being made by Central Government on ‘Ease of Doing Business’ seems to have started bearing fruits. India recorded a dramatic jump in World Competitiveness rankings (the World Economic Forum) to reach to 55th position in the league of 144 countries! Closer to the ground, the MSME registration process has been hugely simplified by Ministry of MSME. From the earlier cumbersome two stage process through 24-page-Form called Enterprise Memorandum (EM) 1 and 2, the new process called ‘Udyog Aadhar’ is online and takes just a few minutes to complete! Thus involvement of any central/state govt. personel or any individual is negated and it's totally a self-declaration. In the country where over 90% of enterprises are un-registered (i.e. we do not have any idea about who they are and what do actually they do) this is an important reform and can be a game changer. Further, to ease access to government support schemes being operated by multiple agencies, MSME Ministry has developed a compendium of such schemes (msme.gov.in). Let’s be optimistic of greater traction on issues such as access to public procurement and credit/delayed payments issues which are a great hindrance to us also. "

Business Banter: Lessons from Entrepreneurs

Proactively look for problems, rather than react only

In every new business, as in every sales territory, problems happen. Reacting to a customer crisis is always more expensive to recover, than to view a problem brewing, and head it off with proper actions. That mentality has to be part of the culture of every startup team member from the start.

Entrepreneurs need to lay seeds for present as well as future

Think of the last time you ate a juicy apple. That apple was the product of a tree somewhere. That tree was the successful outcome of a seed of another apple from another tree. Who knows how many apples produced seeds that were redundant and how many trees produced apples that didn't give rise to anything. But, the important thing here is the tree's ability to produce apples that produce more trees and apples.

The same holds true for an effective marketing campaign as well. The right marketing blueprint helps you create a brand identity and then fortify it for maximized gains.
