Recent flare-ups in West Asia have once again demonstrated that disruptions in supply chains have become a new norm. The Government's decision to introduce ECLGS 5.0, with its focus on supporting MSMEs affected by external disruptions has therefore proved a right decision. It reflects an important recognition that in an increasingly uncertain world, economic resilience must become a core element of industrial policy. Access to affordable and timely credit during periods of disruption can make the difference between survival and closure for thousands of enterprises. MSMEs who are experiencing financial stress must take advantage of this facility. However, I feel as we move forward, India's MSME strategy must evolve beyond crisis response towards building long-term competitiveness. Greater market diversification, digital adoption, stronger integration into global value chains, wider use of trade finance, and improved preparedness for emerging sustainability and regulatory requirements will determine the future success of our enterprises. At FISME, we believe resilience is built not only through financial support but also through knowledge, technology, market intelligence and institutional capacity. We shall continue working with Government, financial institutions and international partners to ensure that Indian MSMEs are equipped not merely to withstand global shocks, but to seize the opportunities that inevitably emerge from them. The world may remain uncertain, but with the right policy support and entrepreneurial confidence, India's MSMEs can continue to be one of the strongest pillars of our nation's economic growth.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched the Index of Services Production (ISP) with 2024-25 as the base year, introducing a monthly indicator to track short-term performance in India's formal services sector.The first set of ISP data has been released for April 2026, covering 19 service sub-sectors. India has extended the anti-dumping duty on certain steel tubes and pipes imported from China until January 27, 2027, aiming to protect domestic manufacturers from low-priced imports, according to a notification by the Ministry of Finance. The duty applies to seamless tubes, pipes and hollow profiles made of iron, alloy or non-alloy steel. It was originally imposed in October 2021 and has now been extended through an amendment issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
Delhi’s power regulator, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), has allowed distribution companies to levy an additional fuel and power purchase adjustment surcharge (FPPAS) for a second consecutive month. The move is expected to push up electricity bills for consumers. In an order dated July 10, the regulator permitted discoms to recover charges beyond the usual cap to offset higher power procurement costs in May 2026.
The additional FPPAS approved stands at 7.94 per cent for BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, 7.43 per cent for BSES Yamuna Power Limited, and 2.21 per cent for Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited.
Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and senior officials to review infrastructure, rural development and agriculture projects in the state. The meeting reviewed 19 infrastructure projects worth over Rs 82,000 crore across sectors including roads, railways, metro, petroleum and natural gas, coal and labour.
The Madhya Pradesh government is planning to develop 81 new industrial areas across the state to create a larger land bank for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with the aim of expanding industrial activity and generating local employment.The MSME Department has initiated the process of securing the transfer of government land in various districts for the proposed industrial estates. Of the 81 planned industrial areas, five have already been approved and development work is underway.
The Assam Cabinet has approved seven bills, including those dealing with ease of doing business and facilitation for setting up MSME units, to be introduced during the budget session of the assembly beginning Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday. The Cabinet also approved an integrated emergency response system to be operated by the police, and a new dairy infrastructure project by AMUL, Sarma said, addressing a press conference after chairing the Cabinet meeting, PTI reported.
