  The FISME Factor

President Message
Mr Animesh SaxenaThe Foreign Trade Policy which was to be announced on 1st Oct 2022, was extended by six months. Following Covid pandemic and Russian-Ukraine war, the global markets remain in a flux. I led a FISME delegation recently to Commerce and Industry Minister. One of the few points that I raised was the need for a ’dynamic’ and ‘responsive’ trade policy. The era of five year policies, like five year plans, is all but over. The policies need to respond to the emerging challenges like upheaval in shipping, foreign exchange markets, insurance and surety premium, shipments tuck and payments delayed etc. Several such cases have been reported by our member MSMEs where the straight-jacketed compliance framework have led to enormous hardships for exporters. The response time also required to be cut drastically with changing external situations. Therefore what is needed is an institutional mechanism where grievances could be submitted and quickly addressed in a transparent and time bound manner. Thanks to availability of digital tech-tools today, periodic analysis of the data would throw important insights for future reforms. CIM has assured to put in place such a system. "
